Lions Reportedly Sign Journeyman QB Josh Johnson
By Ryan Giglio

Who has more lives: a cat or Josh Johnson? Believe it or not, it may be Johnson.
The journeyman quarterback is reportedly being signed by the Detroit Lions to compete to be Matthew Stafford's backup. This will mark the 13th NFL team that Johnson has been a member of.
The #Lions are signing QB Josh Johnson after the workout this morning, source says. That makes a baker’s dozen of teams for Johnson in his NFL career. He has a shot to cement the backup job behind Matt Stafford following Tom Savage’s injury the other night.

The signing comes after quarterback Tom Savage was removed from the Lions' first preseason game on Thursday with a possible head injury.
David Fales is the only other quarterback behind Savage on the team's depth chart. Fales struggled in Thursday's game coming in behind Savage, completing 5-of-14 attempts for 62 yards with one interception and zero touchdowns.
The Lions have high expectations for the 2019 season, and while an injury to Stafford may automatically derail their playoff hopes, they must be ready with a qualified backup just in case.
In July, Johnson reportedly turned down an offer to sign with the Baltimore Ravens due to it not being the "right opportunity" since injured backup Robert Griffin will likely be healthy for the start of the season.

Johnson performed decently with the Washington Redskins late last season, but the Lions will hope he, or any quarterback other than Stafford, never sees the field this season.
