Lions Reportedly Signing AAF Standout Luis Perez
By Scott Rogust
The Detroit Lions are bringing in some depth at the quarterback position heading into the final week of the preseason.
According to reports, the Lions are signing former Alliance of American Football standout Luis Perez to a contract on Monday.
Prior to his AAF stint, Perez was a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M-Commerce by the Los Angeles Rams. In his lone preseason game, Perez completed 8-of-15 pass attempts for 43 yards and an interception. Following that game, Perez was among the team's final roster cuts.
That was when Perez signed on with the Birmingham Iron in the AAF, and was one of the league's stronger signal callers. Perez threw for 1,460 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions on a 52.3 completion percentage. His stint with the Iron was short-lived, as the league shut down operations midway through the season.
Before signing on with the Lions, Perez inked a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was released by the team during OTA's.
Now, Perez will now join a quarterback room with Matthew Stafford, Tom Savage, David Fales, and Josh Johnson, where he will look to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster.
