Literally Zero MLB Owners Agreed to Speak With SI as 2020 Season Falls Apart and That's Pathetic
By Michael Luciano
MLB owners are not only going out of their way to prevent a 2020 season with a meaty amount of games from actually happening, but they are so cowardly that they won't even explain why they're refusing to budge an inch in negotiations with the MLBPA.
Sports Illustrated's Stephanie Apstein reached out to all 30 MLB owners to get their thoughts on the ongoing labor strife and the lack of games. A grand total of...ZERO owners accepted the interview request.
Let's be crystal clear with regards to what is happening -- these owners are trying to shove the same deal down the union's throat, albeit repackaged in four different ways, are outraged that the union is giving them some friction, and are now slinking off into the shadows to avoid being pressured.
All the while, American billionaires have gotten $715 million richer on average since the pandemic started, and the league has signed a new billion-dollar broadcast deal with Turner. They have more than enough money to give in and pay the players, that isn't the issue.
Not only are these 30 billionaires so obsessed with turning a profit that they're willing to let an entire season go by the wayside in pursuit of profit at all costs, but they're so gutless that they're trying to weasel their way out of answering questions about it. You might find billions of dollars in combined net worth in this group of 30, but you won't find a spine among them.
