VIDEO: Lizzo, Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men Pay Tribute to Kobe Bryant at Grammy Awards
By Scott Rogust
The city of Los Angeles was left in stunned shock on Sunday after learning of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant's tragic passing. Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas on Sunday afternoon. Lakers fans surrounded Staples Center to hold a vigil for their fallen icon, but the arena was hosting the Grammy Awards, causing a strange tension between the mourning public and gathered police officers. During the festivities, Alicia Keys called out Boyz II Men to sing "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday."
A truly somber song.
Earlier in the night, Lizzo approached the stage to give her performance at the otherwise-celebratory award show. Just before her set, Lizzo yelled, "Tonight's for Kobe."
Considering the award ceremony was held inside the very arena Bryant played in for 20 years, it would be hard for them to not pay tribute to the legend in some way.
Give credit where credit is due. All three musicians did a good job.
