Orange County Little Leagues Amazingly Ban Use of Astros as Team Nickname

The Houston Astros were found duly guilty of stealing signs during the 2017 MLB season, one in which they ultimately won the World Series. Fans and players alike have voiced their opinions on how they feel about the cheating franchise, and in Orange County, California, two youth baseball leagues are among those who felt what the Astros did was unethical -- and they even went as far as banning the use of Astros as a team nickname.

According to parents in the local little leagues in Long Beach and East Fullerton, wearing Astros gear at such a time as this would send the wrong message to children about integrity and sportsmanship.

At least somebody is taking initiative in punishing the Astros, as Rob Manfred has been very tolerable of the ball club.

Their explanation of the ban is not only for the fact the Astros cheated, but that they've conducted themselves anything but gracefully in the midst of the fallout of their sign-stealing scandal. As of this time, we've heard precious few apologies from those directly involved in the scheme.

Orange County is home to the Angels, the Astros' rivals, and is adjacent to LA County, the home of the Dodgers, who suffered at the hands of that 2017 Houston team in the World series. That surely contributes to why so many parents have no interest in seeing their kids wear Astros colors on the diamond. These communities have every right to be upset.
