Lou Williams Claps Back to Fans and Sindarius Thornwell on Twitter Over Claims About Defense and Age
By Jackson Thompson
Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams took things personally on Twitter this weekend.
After NBA G-League player (and former Clipper) Sindarius Thornwell sent out a tweet encouraging older players to let younger players "rock," the 33-year-old Williams went out of his way to confront his 25-year-old contemporary.
Williams' response to Thornwell was met with the criticism of his defense by an anonymous fan. Williams had no intention of proving the maturity that comes with his age, and instead went on to address the fan and even call his safety into question.
The twitter user in question, a fan page for a handful of NBA and soccer players with 259 followers, would continue to get the best of Williams. He must have realized his ability to get a reaction out of the veteran guard, and played on that ability with further snarky criticisms of his defense.
Williams, a 15-year NBA veteran who is making $8 million this year, had no intention of letting meaningless tweets go unaddressed. A G-League player and nearly invisible Twitter user, who Williams referred to as a "kid," were the dubious beneficiaries of Williams' responses, garnering the most attention they will probably ever get.
Williams is the founder of the Lou Williams Foundation, an esteemed basketball philanthropy organization that sets out to empower young people, yet he empowered young people on social media in a very different way on Monday.
