LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire Reportedly Suffers Non-Contact Hamstring Injury in Practice
By Michael Luciano
Just days before they take on Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl, Ed Orgeron and LSU are awaiting an injury update on one of their best players.
Junior running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire injured his hamstring during practice after he tried to juke out a defender, and we're awaiting an update on his status.
While Heisman winner Joe Burrow and the much-revamped aerial attack has been the main story of LSU's season, Edwards-Helaire's ability to churn out tough yards has made him an indispensable part of their offense.
Edwards-Helaire has picked up 1,290 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground while adding 50 catches and 399 yards as a receiver. He has over 100 yards rushing in six games this season despite the fact he was only given 20 or more carries three times, and this surge in production has gotten the NFL scouts buzzing.
226-pound freshman Tyrion Davis-Price is third on the team in rushing behind Edwards-Helaire and Burrow, and would be expected to handle most of the running back duties if Edwards-Helaire is unable to go. LSU will still be a favorite regardless, but losing their starting running back could be a cataclysmic blow for the Tigers.
