News dropped over the weekend that LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron suspended freshman linebacker Donte Starks indefinitely, but the reason for the decision was unknown.

Now we know why, and it's not good. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the 19-year-old Starks was arrested last Friday on "counts of illegally possessing a concealed handgun and attempting to run away from deputies who stopped him while investigating a complaint about armed men selling crack cocaine."

On Wednesday, the LSU athletic department confirmed they knew what happened but didn't comment any further. Although Starks was immediately released on $500 bail, it doesn't seem the Tigers are going to accept his behavior given the significant suspension.

The deputies were called to investigate the scene and happened to spot Starks, who was said to have ignored their verbal commands. Starks took off and ran from the law enforcement officials but was eventually chased down and handcuffed. A loaded handgun was found in his backpack, which led to bookings on two charges: carrying a concealed weapon and resisting law enforcement officers.

The good news is that these are misdemeanors and only carry a maximum of a six-month sentence, so assuming he takes the offseason getting back on track and making things right, he could be back on the team before next year.
