By Dylan McCaffrey

You might know Ed Orgeron as one of the best recruiters in amateur football, but you might not know the extent he goes to in order to get that reputation. LSU star K'Lavon Chaisson, a projected first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, shared the crazy story about how Orgeron recruited him at the Combine this week.

Chaisson says he was already planning on going to Texas for his football career, but Orgeron persisted. He says the LSU coach showed up at Chaisson's house at 4 in the morning to make sure he could talk to the highly-touted high school linebacker prospect.
The heart that Coach Orgeron shows for winning is clear to players, and they want to fight for their leader. This is not the only Orgeron anecdote out there that makes him seem like a psycho in the best way, of course. His story is an incredible one.

The persistence paid off, because Chaisson came to LSU and was one of their best linebackers in 2019, with 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Orgeron didn't just recruit Chaisson, of course; he wooed the consensus No. 1 pick, Joe Burrow, as a transfer to complete his puzzle. Orgeron remains an integral piece of the makeup of the LSU program.
