LSU QB Joe Burrow Named 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year
By Scott Rogust
Joe Burrow has been just what the LSU Tigers had been missing for years, and that's an elite quarterback. After winning the SEC Championship, the awards keep rolling in for the perennial No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
On Thursday, Burrow was named the 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year, as voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and directors.
Outlasting other finalists Justin Fields, Chuba Hubbard, Chase Young, and Jonathan Taylor, Burrow is the first player from LSU to ever win the award.
Burrow helped lead the Tigers to an undefeated 13-0 regular season with his arm and superb playmaking abilities. Throughout the regular season, Burrow completed a remarkable 77.9 completion percentage for 4,715 yards, 48 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Those statistics resulted in LSU earning the No.1 ranking in the upcoming College Football Playoff, where they will face off against the No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 28.
Joe Burrow can now add the Walter Camp Player of the Year award to his mantle, right next to his 2019 SEC Player of the Year and AP Player of the Year trophies. But we're sure there will be more awards heading his way in the coming days, that's a surefire bet.
