Former 4-Star LB Donte Starks Kicked Off LSU Tigers Football Team Amid Legal Issues
By Andrew Gullotta
LSU is coming off of one of the best seasons ever in college football history. However, their defense took a hit for the 2020 season.
Former 4-star linebacker Donte Starks was kicked off the team due to legal issues. While he was the 10th-ranked inside linebacker in the country in 2019, his off the field issues proved to be too large. The true freshman was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and resisting law enforcement, for which he was suspended earlier in the offseason.
This loss will be significant for the Tigers considering all three of their starting linebackers in 2019 are leaving the team for the NFL. Starks was in good shape to win a starting job, as he already played in three games last season.
The good news is that LSU has former 5-star recruit Marcel Brooks leading the way for the new wave of Tigers linebackers. Additionally, the program has been great at finding studs at the position. Deion Jones, Kwon Alexander, Devin White and Patrick Queen were all defensive leaders and impact players in Baton Rouge.
Even though LSU will take a hit with the unfortunate loss of Starks, the team should've have enough depth to make up for it when 2020 starts.
