LSU Tops Latest CFP Rankings After Beating Alabama in Week 11
By Mark Powell
Despite winning by 59 points the previous week against Maryland, Ohio State is no longer the top team in the CFP rankings, and it's no fault of their own.
After narrowly beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa in a heavyweight No. 2 vs No. 3 matchup on Saturday, the LSU Tigers have jumped the Buckeyes into the top spot. Meanwhile, Alabama has dropped out of the top four.
This is all fair, and still provides Alabama a chance to make their way safely back into a semifinal berth, but they'll have to rely on other conference powers to follow suit. Georgia must win out to cement their spot in the top four, but should they lose to (likely) LSU in the SEC Championship Game, they will not be gifted that opportunity.
The Pac-12, meanwhile, still has two teams right next to each other in the top 10: Oregon and Utah.
Other than LSU, the biggest storyline would have to be the rapid rise of Minnesota, which made its way into the top 10 to the No. 8 spot, leapfrogging Penn State after taking them down 31-26 last week. Should the Golden Gophers continue their undefeated run and defeat Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship, they'll be square in the CFP conversation as well.
