Luis Cessa to Start Monday Night for Yankees Instead of Jonathan Loaisiga

The New York Yankees begin a three-game series in the Bronx tonight against the Baltimore Orioles. Right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga was the scheduled starter for the first game of the series, but a big change was made.

Aaron Boone is going with right-hander Luis Cessa instead.

There's no word on whether Loaisiga is hurt or won't be available. Instead, the idea swirling around this change is that Cessa will be an opener and Loaisiga will follow him after a couple innings out of the bullpen.

Loaisiga has never gone more than four innings in a game, as the club is looking to manage the workload for the young pitcher. If he follows Cessa and does what he's been able to do thus far this season, he could factor in the decision against a poor Orioles offense.

Cessa, meanwhile, has been a multi-inning reliever for the Yankees this year, appearing in 11 games, giving up eight runs (seven earned), and racking up 25 strikeouts over 19 innings of work.
