Luis Severino Close to Getting Back on Mound According to Aaron Boone
By Max Scoli
Yankees ace Luis Severino has been working hard to come back from a right lat strain and right rotator cuff inflammation, and appears to be inching closer and closer to a return.
According to Yankees Manager Aaron Boone, we're on the verge of seeing him on the mound. For real.
Severino has been on the injured list since March 28, but the two-time MLB All-Star has been making progress with each week. He began his throwing program earlier this month as part of his rehab. Now, Severino is having 90-foot catches, with plans to throw off the mound in the near future.
It has been a long road for Sevy, but the Dominican pitcher remains willing to do whatever is necessary to get back on the field.
Severino was a stud for the Yanks last season, maintaining a 3.39 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and 220 strikeouts. He was even better in the season prior, sporting career-highs in strikeouts (230), opponent batting average (.208), and WHIP (1.14) in 2017.
