Luke Voit is an All-Star and I'm Going to Do Everything in My Power to Get Him There | ADAM BOMB

With just over a month to go before baseball's brightest stars convene in Cleveland for the Midsummer Classic, I have only one item on my agenda. It's a repeated event in my calendar, scheduled daily and circled in blue pen: GET LUKE VOIT THE ALL-STAR BERTH HE DESERVES, RECURRING, 1:00 PM.

All other activities (work, hobbies, nutrition) must take a back seat for the time being.

Because some how, some way, the New York Yankees acquired the exact type of player they'd been missing for two decades in a midnight news dump last July 29, and since then, Voit has spent each and every day proving his lack of flukiness to an astounding degree.

And he's gotten recognition for being a beefy adrenaline shot, sure, but a celebration of Voit on the national stage is a top-of-the-list essential for 2019. Let's get him one in The Land in July, then schedule a follow-up appointment with America in October. Sound good?

Now, the All-Star voting system is easier than ever; ignoring some bizarre "primary" system, all you have to do to input a quick sequence of votes for those who matter most is...Google their names.

That's helpful. That's something I'm already doing everyday. For example, sometimes I Google "Luke Voit stats since August 2018" just to further marvel over the fact that the Yankees got their engine in exchange for Chasen Shreve (since DFA'd by St. Louis) and Gio Gallegos, a man who was a Yankee in the same way that any number of 2013 third-string third basemen were (shoutout Luis Cruz).

In case you want to save yourself some time, those stats are as follows: 98 games, 28 home runs, 71 RBI, and one hilarious triple (two if you count the one in the 2018 AL Wild Card Game, which Voit pointed and gestured over the right field wall, only to realize the ball was in play and he had to sprint like a bison).

Last fall, Voit was having the time of his life. Memories of being the final Cardinals roster casualty prior to Opening Day still firmly stuck in his mind, he spent the final two months of the 2018 campaign wreaking havoc in the Bronx, riding a wave that even he wasn't sure would continue once pitchers detected and exploited his nuances.

Turns out, Voit had plenty of counter-moves in his arsenal, using a scorching west coast trip to catapult his 2019 stats to the top of his position: 14 homers (second among AL first basemen), 38 RBI (second), and an .892 OPS (third). He's in the top 5% of the league in barrel percentage (16.8% of the time, he drills a baseball) and expected slugging percentage (.571, based on how hard he bashes).

Every stat you can dig up proves Voit is screaming the ball, clearing the wall, and climbing to the top of his profession, doing it for the most high-profile franchise in the sport, one in need of his exact brand of pressure-free mashing for the better part of two decades. Now, it's time to join me in doing my small part in getting Voit the recognition he deserves.
