Madison Bumgarner Reportedly Unlikely to Be Traded as Giants Plan to Be Deadline Buyers
By Adam Weinrib
After their recent hot streak, it would be somewhat impossible to justify a Madison Bumgarner trade to the Giants' fan base.
And after much deliberation, it seems the Giants front office agrees with that sentiment.
Per reports, Bumgarner won't be dealt, and San Francisco is far more likely to be buyers than they are to tear it all down.
Though Farhan Zaidi and his wheelers and dealers in the front office likely wish they had carte blanche to tear down this flawed roster instead, they certainly owe it to Bruce Bochy to give him one last run in his final season.
As the Giants have surged to 3.5 games out of the Wild Card, Bumgarner has surged right along with them, fighting back rumors of his demise with a 3.18 ERA in his past seven starts, and putting up 16 innings of four-run baseball against the Mets and Cubs most recently.
For the cherry on top, the ornery lefty seems to have no desire whatsoever to leave.
And he, along with All-Star closer Will Smith, likely won't. Let's see how this wild ride concludes.
