By Mark Powell

Magic Johnson joined the NBA community in their latest tribute to the fallen Kobe Bryant before the All-Star Game in Chicago on Sunday night.
The moment was emotional for all involved, and even those watching from home, as Johnson, followed by Jennifer Hudson and then Common, gave touching testimony to the Lakers legend.
Afterward, Magic tweeted out one more message to Bryant.
Kobe, we miss you and I hope we made you proud.

Surely, Bryant is watching from above.
Magic and Kobe's relationship was a special one, as Johnson essentially passed the torch as franchise cornerstone to Bryant at an early age. While he had his pitfalls, Bryant brought championship pedigree to a franchise which has known very little but that level of success.
Common rapped about him. Magic Johnson shared memories. Jennifer Hudson sang. @ESPN story on honoring Kobe Bryant at the All Star Game: https://t.co/aWXKcFu3cX

The memory of Kobe is still strong with us all, and while it's been over three weeks since his passing, it still feels like yesterday. Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna, were a beacon of hope to the NBA and, perhaps eventually, the WNBA.
That makes their passing all the more tragic.
