Malcolm Jenkins Says He Won’t Be Back With Eagles in 2020 Under Current Contract

With the Philadelphia Eagles' season over thanks to a 17-9 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday's Wild Card playoff game, the team's focus will now turn to the offseason.
But it seems that won't be clear sailing for the Birds either. Longtime defensive stalwart Malcolm Jenkins told the media that he won't return to the Eagles under his current contract.

Jenkins held out of several offseason team activities prior to this year in hopes of securing a new contract for 2020 and beyond. With the team strapped for cash, the 32-year-old didn't get a new deal. He's slated to make just $7.6 million in 2020, but carries a dead cap of $6.1 million, so without a restructure or extension, it seems as though the team's only option would be to trade their veteran safety.
Should Jenkins leave Philly, there could be many teams interested in acquiring his talents and giving him a new deal, considering he's been one of the most durable and effective defensive backs in the NFL over these past five seasons.
Malcolm Jenkins played 1,034 of 1,034 defensive snaps this season.

It's the second consecutive season he hasn't missed a defensive snap.
Since he's come to Philadelphia, here are his snap percentages:
2014: 99%
2015: 99%
2016: 99%
2017: 92%
2018: 100%
2019: 100%
While it may be tough to swing from a financial standpoint, the Eagles should do everything in their power to assure Jenkins remains a member of the organization in 2020 and beyond.
