Man Dies After Choking During Taco Eating Contest at Fresno Grizzlies Minor League Game

Wednesday brings tragic news from the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

A man who took part in a taco eating contest at the Fresno Grizzlies' game on Tuesday has died.

Dana Hutchings, 41, died on arrival at Community Regional Medical Center after he was taken from Chukchansi Ballpark to the hospital. Hutchings was participating in the contest as part of "Taco Tuesday" at the park when he collapsed to the ground midway through the event.

EMTs reportedly attempted both the Heimlich manuever and CPR until the paramedics arrived on the scene, but to no avail. There's no official cause of death, but it's believed that he choked. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

In a release, the Grizzlies said, "Out of respect to that fan, we are unable to comment further until more information becomes available." They also added that they extended their "heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family of Mr. Hutchings."

It's unfathomable that the event, which was a build-up to the Grizzlies' "Taco Truck Throwdown," could have taken such a drastic and horrific turn.

Nobody should have to endure this at a night at a ballpark.
