Man Mistakenly Identified as Browns Fan Who Threw Beer on Titans' Logan Ryan Suing Team
By Adam Weinrib
The Cleveland Browns' AFC Championship season broke down from the very beginning, when a Tennessee Titans team not known for putting up points ran roughshod on The Land, repeatedly picking off Baker Mayfield in Week 1.
Naturally, frustration boiled over from Browns fans with high expectations, and one goonish fan dumped a full beer on Titans safety Logan Ryan following an interception return.
Don't worry, though. The Browns were on it, banning that fan from the premises in the aftermath.
One problem, though. They appear to have gotten the wrong guy, and that fan who was unceremoniously banned is now suing the team. You win some, you lose some!
Yes, Eric Smith of Lakewood claims he was DJing a party the day of the game, and -- get this -- has not attended a Browns game in any capacity since 2010.
Ladies and gentlemen...we got him!
Per Cleveland.com, the lawsuit alleges that Browns executive Bob Sivik swiftly called Smith following the incident, and was, "rude, short and dismissive and was clearly on a mission to resolve this bad press for the Cleveland Browns."
After much protesting from Smith, Sivik called him a liar, and alleged he had been identified by video surveillance tapes. Show of hands...do we think there's any chance the Browns executed this manhunt correctly?
Hopefully, due process wins out here, as it does not seem justice was served. Also, once we find the real beer-dumper, let's make his punishment "attending as many Browns games as possible."
