Marcus Stroman's Subpar Stats Since Trade From Blue Jays Should Concern Mets Fans
By Mark Powell
Marcus Stroman hasn't exactly made the immediate impact Mets fans expected when they acquired him for two pitching prospects near the MLB Trade Deadline this July.
Rather, Stroman has flipped the script, albeit not in a good way. The righty has some fairly putrid numbers as a Met, with an ERA over five to boot. Yikes.
This, of course, includes a subpar outing on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies, in which he went just four innings, giving up 10 hits and five runs in the process. Considering the Phillies remain ahead of the Mets in the NL Wild Card race, those aren't the kind of numbers New York expects out of a supposed ace against a fellow contender.
Now, Stroman wasn't simply acquired to make a run this season, as he has another year left on his contract. The Mets' second half run was seen as a bonus, and the team has rallied around management's decision to invest in the current squad, rather than tear it down entirely.
Yet, Stroman must give the Mets a glimpse of what's to come to quell concerns about his performance.
