Mariners OF Braden Bishop's Fiancee Reveals Just How Serious His Terrifying Spleen Injury Was
By Jerry Trotta
After leaving a game against the Houston Astros on Tuesday with painful cramps, Seattle Mariners outfielder Braden Bishop was eventually hospitalized to undergo procedures on a lacerated spleen.
Doctors later determined that the injury stemmed from last Friday, when Bishop was drilled in the ribs while playing with Triple-A Tacoma, and the club subsequently placed the 25-year-old on the 10-day injured list.
Bishop remained hospitalized on Thursday, and his fiancee recently took to Instagram in an emotional manner to update family, friends, and fans alike on just how serious and daunting the injury was, mentioning that Braden also damaged an artery.
"Doctors were in shock that Braden was able to play the last few days, let alone walk around knowing how severe his injury was. He was hit by a pitch in the rib area about five days ago, which damaged his artery. They said they've only seen this injury in major car accidents. They were able to get him in right away for an emergency procedure that went extremely well. Spent the night in the Trauma ICU and is feeling better today. Everyone I've spoken to in this department said that he is on TOUGH man for pushing through the pain so he can be on the field with his teammates. Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers," read the impassioned post.
We have no words.
What a warrior this guy is.
The fact that Bishop hit the field for FOUR more days before heading to the hospital says everything. It's relieving to hear that he is doing so well after such a chilling, arduous last few days.
Here's to wishing one of the toughest dudes in all of baseball a speedy recovery.
