Mariners OF Mitch Haniger Suffered Testicular Contusion After Fouling Pitch off Himself
By Parker White
The Seattle Mariners lost in 14 innings to the Houston Astros on Thursday, further extending their rough stretch of play. Things were made worse for Seattle, however, as outfielder Mitch Haniger, arguably their best player, was removed from the game in the seventh inning.
The reason? Haniger fouled a ball off of himself, in a very undesirable area, and had to leave the game with what was later described as a testicular contusion.
Ouch.
It's within reason for a player to remain in the game after fouling a ball off their foot or shin, but to get one right in the family jewels? That's more than enough reason for Haniger to take a seat in the dugout.
“He’s getting some tests right now,” manager Scott Servais said after the game. “He took a pretty hard shot. We’ll find out more once we get those tests back.”
I would really hate to be the doctor administering the tests on Haniger.
Hopefully Haniger's odd ailment doesn't keep him on the shelf for too long, but when nursing that type of injury, it's better to be safe than sorry.
