Marlins Ether Rays With Impressively Inappropriate Twitter Comeback After Being Swept in Tampa
By Charles Nason
The struggle continues for the Miami Marlins.
Over the weekend, Miami took on their Florida neighbors, the Tampa Bay Rays, in a two-game series. And the battle all began on Saturday night, when the Marlins tried to brag about a highlight...
...even though they did not pick up a dub, which the Rays reminded them of swiftly.
Miami tried to respond, but they didn't have much. All good. Everyone needs some place to start.
After the set ended in a sweep in favor of the boys from St. Petersburg, both teams took to Twitter for some banter back and forth, with the Rays returning first to the scene of the crime.
But the Marlins may have taken things a bit too far.
Well... that's one way to get back at the team that just took you down in back-to-back games.
Despite an embarassing effort in Sunday's 7-2 loss, the Fish were clearly still feeling themselves on Twitter. That tweet has already stirred some controversey, with many asking why they felt the need to bring the late, legendary Steve Irwin into the online confrontation.
On the other hand, some think that the Marlins clap-back was actually pretty funny.
After getting swept and taking your seventh loss in 12 games, you may as well have your dukes up on social media if they aren't out there on the field.
Says it all.
It would be hard to say that this is a good look for the Marlins. After being sat down by the Rays, they tried to change the subject with an attempt at humor. Whether or not you find it to be in poor taste, perhaps there's no way that the Rays could be too upset with this considering how the weekend played out on the field.
