VIDEO: Marshawn Lynch 'Take Care of Y'all Chicken' Speech Was the Perfect Way to End This Season
By Ian Anderson
Seattle Seahawks' running back Marshawn Lynch does not talk to the media very much, but when he does, the whole world should listen. And in his press availability following the Seahawks' 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs Sunday, he dropped some truly poignant advice for the younger generation of NFL players.
Lynch's speech makes for the perfect sendoff for Seattle's season. It felt a bit weird and wacky to refer to one's nest egg as "chicken," but the overall sentiments make all the sense in the world.
He tells players that they need to take care of their their bodies, their bread and/or their chicken. (Perhaps this is the related to getting one's "ducks in a row.") His primary message to young players in the NFL who are seeing millions of dollars for the first time in their lives is to conserve and plan for the future. That way, retirement ends up being pretty sweet.
New England Patriots rookie Joejuan Williams is a prime example of Beast Mode's words of wisdom.
The rookie saves about 90% of every paycheck so that he can live like a prince for the rest of his life no matter what happens with his long-term football future.
Other NFL players should take note of this, because once your body is gone, football isn't going to pay the bills anymore. Listen to Marshawn, kids. His wisdom is vast, even if it's delivered in what feels like a mystical, fantastical language sometimes.
