Mason Crosby Wins Packers Kicker Competition

It took until the last day of the preseason, but Mason Crosby's job is safe for another campaign.
The 35-year-old kicker has won the Green Bay Packers' kicking competition, making him the starter for the 13th year in a row.
Crosby was in a competition with former Los Angeles Rams backup kicker Sam Ficken for most of the preseason. Ultimately, though, Ficken was cut, leaving Crosby as the starter yet again.
He's done more than enough to earn the job both over the course of his career and in the preseason. Crosby has made 80.4% of his field goal attempts throughout his career, including 34 from 50 yards and beyond. There's also no shortage of moments in which he's come up clutch for the Packers, one of the more recent examples being his walk-off kick against the Cowboys in the 2016 playoffs.
Cracks started to show in his stony resolve last year, though. He missed seven field goals, something he hadn't done since 2014, and questions arose as to whether or not his days in Green Bay were soon to be numbered.
But through it all, he lived to kick another year. Crosby survived a hard-fought competition with Ficken that went down to the wire, and now he's back for another season with the chance to prove his doubters wrong.
