Matt Grzelcyk Out for Bruins in Stanley Cup Finals Game 6
By Charles Nason
On the brink of the end of their Cup Finals journey, it looks as though the Bruins will be without defenseman Matt Grzelcyk for the fourth straight game. After taking a brutal hit from Oskar Sundqvist in Game 2 that resulted in a one-game suspension for the Blues forward, Grzelcyk has been going through the NHL's concussion protocol.
The Bruins will look to salvage their season and Stanley Cup hopes in Game 6, while St. Louis looks to make franchise history. Unfortunately for Grzelcyk, he won't be able to help Boston in their attempt to extend the series to a seventh game.
For the Bruins, the Stanley Cup Finals have been riddled with various injuries to some of their most valuable skaters. On the brink of elimination, Boston's head coach Bruce Cassidy has assured that captain Zdeno Chara will play in Game 6. However, with Chara's broken jaw and Grzelcyk still out, the Bruins' blue line remains battered and broken.
Forced to make a number of changes throughout the series, Cassidy has juggled his lineup fairly well. Luckily, most of their star forwards, along with goaltender Tuukka Rask, have maintained their health through one of the most physical series of the 2019 playoffs.
Although still in concussion protocol, Grzelcyk has been practicing with the team. Rocking a non-contact red jersey, the 25-year-old Boston University alum is still feeling the effects of that Game 2 hit.
With their season on the line, the Bruins will still go with six defensemen, including recent addition John Moore. Cassidy has also elected to go with the speedy rookie forward Karson Kuhlman over veteran David Backes.
