Matt LaFleur Has Finally Solved the Packers' Offensive Problem
By Michael Luciano
The Green Bay Packers offense was a dinosaur compared to the innovative schemes being drawn up by the likes of Sean McVay and Andy Reid. Too frequently, the Packers' running game was ineffective, leading Aaron Rodgers to chuck it 50 times against a defense that routinely dropped seven or eight players into coverage.
The Matt LaFleur era has already managed to shake off the stink of Mike McCarthy's offenses, as LaFleur has Rodgers, the offense, and the team rolling to a 3-0 start.
Through both an improved offensive line and the impressive play of feature back Aaron Jones and change of pace guy Jamaal Williams, Rodgers doesn't need to win games with his arm alone.
Instead, Rodgers can finally work off of play action. While by no means a savant, LaFleur's offense has enough bell and whistles in it to confuse the defense and take advantage of Rodgers' strengths as a passer, which is more than can be said about McCarthy's offense.
Rodgers and LaFleur have a tough matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles on deck, but using their new-look offense against a porous Eagles secondary-- which just lost its third starter in Ronald Darby-- LaFleur could be on his way to a 4-0 start.
