Matt LaFleur Spotted Coaching From Cart After Tearing Achilles
By Parker White
The Green Bay Packers had their third and final open practice of OTAs on Tuesday, and for the first time since tearing his Achilles last week when playing basketball, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was spotted at the facility.
LaFleur was out leading practice, but he was doing so from a seated position in a golf cart, unlike the high-energy and high-involvement coaching style he typically utilizes.
LaFleur was hanging out with general manager Brian Gutekunst during practice, but driving around in the cart didn't keep him from elevating his leg. He had some foam padding attached to the dashboard so he could rest his leg while cruising around the field.
LaFleur wasn't confined to the golf cart, and he managed to get up and close with the team by using three-wheeled scooter. He was moving around the practice field in style!
If all goes well in his recovery, LaFleur should be back on his feet four weeks after surgery. You can expect him to still be hobbling around, but at least he'll be able to put some weight on his leg and be ready for training camp.
It wasn't the start the Packers' new head coach was hoping to get off to in Green Bay, but to see him already back with the team and maintaining his coaching duties, despite the serious injury, is an awesome sign of commitment from the 39-year-old.
