Media Ridiculously Speculates Danny Amendola Chose No. 12 With Lions to Honor Tom Brady

Danny Amendola will be wearing No. 12 with his new team, the Detroit Lions, leading to some ridiculous speculation from some media members in New England. Some asked whether Amendola chose the number to honor his former teammate, Tom Brady.

Amendola denied the connection. "Not a story. Sorry!" he responded, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

One more reasonable assumption made by Reiss is that the number is representing Amendola's 12th season in the NFL. Or, perhaps even more reasonably, it could be he just likes the number 12.

Amendola has worn a variety of numbers in his career: 16 with the Rams, 11 with the Eagles, 18 with the Cowboys, and 80 with the Patriots and Dolphins (he never appeared in a regular season game for the Cowboys or Eagles). And with 11, 16, 18, and 80 are all currently taken by players on the Lions' roster, he had to choose a new one.

Amendola, who had 59 catches for 575 yards and a touchdown with Miami last season, will likely be taking on a big role in the slot for the Lions this season in the absence of the departed Golden Tate.
