Mel Kiper's Latest Mock Draft Has a Huge Shakeup Among Quarterbacks
By Jerry Trotta
With the NFL Draft a little over a week away, fans have been waiting in great anticipation for ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper to release his latest mock. Well, that day has finally arrived and his projections feature a plethora of surprises, particularly at the quarterback position.
In Kiper's previous mock draft, his first following the Combine, he had Joe Burrow going No. 1 overall to Cincinnati, the Dolphins drafting Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5, the Chargers selecting Justin Herbert with the No. 6 pick, and Jordan Love falling to the Patriots at No. 23.
Let's just say that only one of those prospects maintained their position in Kiper's 4.0 edition.
Kiper's two-round simulation predictably has Cincinnati keeping the faith in Burrow. After that, things get interesting. The draft insider now has the Dolphins choosing Herbert at No. 5 and the Chargers taking Tagovailoa at No. 6. Elsewhere, Love moved up four spots to the Raiders at No. 19.
These are significant changes, folks. We're not sure what Tagovailoa did to warrant being dropped in the rankings, but here we are. Perhaps the conflicting reports on the status of his surgically-repaired hip played a factor, but the former Alabama star sure looked healthy at his virtual Pro Day last week.
Whatever the case, after months of regurgitating that Tua was poised to call Miami his NFL home, Kiper is now convinced that Herbert will be the quarterback of the future for the Dolphins and head coach Brian Flores.
We're nine days away from draft night, so let the buzz continue until then!
