Melvin Gordon Posts Cryptic Instagram Story About Equal Pay Amid Chargers Holdout
By Michael Luciano
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon appears to be no closer to reaching an agreement to rejoin the team amid his ongoing holdout in search of a new contract.
Chargers GM Tom Telesco stated that the team will revisit Gordon's contract talks once the 2019 NFL season has concluded. Gordon doesn't seem interested in playing under his rookie contract, and posted a purposefully vague Instagram story that alludes to the possibility he isn't coming back anytime soon.
I'm sure that women's soccer players love that you're co-opting their slogan, Melvin.
Gordon has earned a new deal based solely on his production, as he ran for 885 yards and added 490 more as a receiver while scoring 14 touchdowns in 12 games. However, Telesco and the Spanos family have been hesitant to splash the cash for Gordon, and he is on the verge of sitting out the entire year to get what he believes is market value for him.
It looks like he's prepared to dig his heels in with this holdout, though Telesco is clearly willing to do the same.
Going off of his social media activity, expect to see more of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson this year in LA as Gordon refuses to get on the field.
