Mets Activate Jeff McNeil From 10-Day IL
By Sean Facey
After missing two weeks of play, the New York Mets are set to bring back one of their premier offensive talents.
The Mets have activated outfielder Jeff McNeil from the 10-day injured list and have optioned pitcher Tyler Bashlor to Triple-A Syracuse.
He initially was sent to the injured list after he suffered a hamstring strain late in May and in the meantime, Bashlor posted a 5.40 ERA in 11 2/3 innings at the MLB level.
McNeil is one of the best hitters in the game this year, slashing .333/.418/.461 in 165 at-bats.
His 142 OPS+ is the second-best mark on the team behind only rookie sensation Pete Alonso's 151. His .418 OBP leads the team.
McNeil will bat leadoff for the Mets as he makes his return against the San Francisco Giants. Manager Mickey Callaway has struggled to get consistent production out of the top spot in the order in his absence.
With McNeil leading things off once again, the Mets can look forward to seeing their best hitter putting early traffic on the basepaths.
