Mets Activate Noah Syndergaard From Injured List and DFA Carlos Gomez

The New York Mets are finally getting some much needed help in the rotation.
Per an official team announcement on Sunday, the Mets activated Noah Syndergaard from the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, outfielder Carlos Gomez was designated for assignment.
Syndergaard has been on the IL since Jun 16 after suffering a hamstring strain during his start against the St. Louis Cardinals. He went through a rehab start with Low-A Brooklyn on Tuesday, striking out nine and allowing three runs through five innings.
Apparently the Mets felt confident enough to activate the 26-year-old after the start, as he'll now start Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. He'll look to improve upon his 4.55 ERA in 95 innings of work.
On the other hand, the Mets DFA'ing Gomez makes sense, as he lost a ton of playing time with the team since Michael Conforto became a regular in center field. Gomez didn't exactly light it up in his second go-around with the Mets, slashing just .198/.278/.337, and playing poor defense. It was clear that he was expendable.
Should he go unclaimed, Gomez will likely report straight to Triple-A Syracuse, where he'll wait for his next chance to rejoin the major league club.
