VIDEO: Edwin Diaz's Fastball Looks Beyond Nasty in Latest Workout Footage
By Tyler Kemp
Back in 2018, Edwin Diaz was one of the best closers in baseball with the Seattle Mariners. He was selected as an AL All-Star, Reliever of the Year and led the league in saves. After being packaged with Robinson Canó in a trade to the Mets, 2019 was a struggle for the closer. Based on this video, though, Diaz could be coming back as strong as ever.
What is a guy supposed to do with that kind of cheese in the lower half of the batter’s box? Usually, Diaz hits close to 98 miles per hour on his fastball. If he has his normal stuff working on the mound, the Mets will certainly have more success in closing out games.
Diaz allowed 15 home runs in the ninth inning of games for the team from Flushing last season. Whether it was adjusting to hitters in a new league or a simple case of the yips, Diaz needs to have an amazing bounce-back campaign.
If this video is any indication, the Mets could have a premier closer for the 2020 season. The NL East better get ready.
