Major League Baseball's proposal to start the 2020 regular season has been passed by team owners and it is currently making its way through the players' union. Putting the financial dispute aside, the tweaks as it pertains to to the game of baseball include a divisional realignment, playoff expansion, and a universal designated hitter.

The latter could prove to benefit several teams across the NL, and the New York Mets undoubtedly fill that bill, as hobbled slugger Yoenis Cespedes could actually have a pragmatic role for the upcoming season, if it is played.

The New York Post acknowledged the allure of that prospect with an awesome back page on Wednesday.

Assuming he's healthy, first-year manager Luis Rojas shouldn't think twice about deploying Cespedes as the team's primary DH. Such a luxury would serve as a needed morale boost following the untimely Tommy John surgery that right-hander Noah Syndergaard was forced to undergo shortly after the team paused Spring Training action.

It's a huge "if," but Cespedes serving as the Mets' full-time DH would give him the best chance to resemble something close to the stud he was in 2016 when he hit .280/.354/.530 with 31 home runs, 86 RBI and an .884 OPS. That specific role would preserve his legs and prevent him from enduring further wear and tear that would transpire while playing left field.

Despite missing most of the last three seasons, you have to think that the 34-year-old is still capable of swinging the bat at an elite level, and the New York Post acknowledging that should excite Mets fans, who could see a replenished La Potencia in 2020.
