Mets Fans Organizing Protest of Tom Brady for Seeking Trademark of Tom Seaver's Nickname
By Jerry Trotta
Before the walking legend that is six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who some absurdly claim is widely recognized as "Tom Terrific," there was Hall of Famer, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and 12-time All-Star, Tom Seaver, who was coined by baseball fans EVERYWHERE as "Tom Terrific."
Last week, the Patriots quarterback filed to trademark the nickname and the backlash he has received has been never-ending on this Monday. New York sports talk radio hosts like Boomer Esiason and even the New York Mets official Twitter account took time out of their day to rip Brady's actions.
Now, however, Mets fans are going to have their say on Tuesday evening at Sojourn Restaurant in New York City to protest Tom's filing for trademark.
Darren Rovell wisely notes that Seaver never officially filed for trademark but you would think that a professional of Brady's stature would respect the three-time ERA title holder's breathtaking career. Brady, of all people, should understand that, right?
After all, how many careers are so prestigious that they develop TWO renowned nicknames. Of course, Seaver was also identified amongst pundits and fans as "The Franchise."
Though Brady, a future Hall of Famer, will likely go down as the GOAT, the fact of the matter is that Seaver held the title "Tom Terrific" decades earlier than him and did so on a much larger scale.
And at the end of the day, it seems like Seaver and Mets devotees will do whatever it takes to ensure that Brady retracts his decision to assume representation of the now controversial designation.
