Mets Further Prove They're a Joke by Needing 3 Rounds of Interviews to Find Next Manager
By Michael Luciano
The New York Mets are the picture of indecisiveness. After letting Joe Girardi slip through their fingers and head to their hated rivals in the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets are currently sifting through a laundry list of managerial candidates.
Not only that, but they're on their THIRD series of interviews for their managerial vacancy, and their list of candidates includes Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy and Twins bench coach Derek Shelton.
In an offseason where Girardi, Joe Maddon, Buck Showalter, Dusty Baker, Mike Matheny and more are available, this is what the Mets are doing.
The two candidates that have long stood above the rest are former All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran, who is currently a special advisor with the Yankees, and ESPN analyst Eduardo Perez.
Both of them have no coaching experience, as it seems the Mets are going for a more unusual hire after bringing aboard experienced pitching coach Mickey Callaway went down in flames.
The fanbase was hell bent on Girardi, with Beltran emerging as the clear No. 2 option. If the Mets go for another out-of-the-blue candidate like the now-deposed Callaway, there's no shot they'll be able to live it down.
