Mets Giving Advanced Scout Virtually No Notice Before Letting Him Go is Truly a Bad Look
By Sean Facey
The Mets have already made a handful of notable organizational decisions this offseason. Some of them have been good, such as the hiring of Carlos Beltran as their next manager. Others? Not so much.
But few, however, compare to just how bad of a look this is. The Mets fired advanced scout and replay coordinator just hours before the deadline to renew his contract, depriving him of the chance to get a head-start in searching for new employment.
While it is technically within the bounds of the contract, it doesn't make it excusable in the slightest. It shows a lack of respect and consideration that the organization has for the livelihoods of their employees.
Of course, it's not exactly out of character. This is the same team that fired one of the minor league managers, Edgardo Alfonzo, shortly after he helped his team capture a championship this year.
It's likely that they just genuinely hadn't made up their minds on whether or not they wanted to keep him, but regardless of what the situation was surrounding Wickham and his contract, it's a failure both to have respect and to have foresight.
It's just another typical poor decision by an organization that struggles to get things right on a daily basis.
