Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen Reportedly Threw a Chair in Angry Meeting With Coaching Staff
By Sean Facey

To virtually nobody's surprise, it sounds like even the Mets front office isn't immune to the absurd dysfunction that has plagued the team this year on the field and in the clubhouse.
General manager Brodie Van Wagenen reportedly threw a chair in a fuming discussion with the coaching staff following a brutal 7-2 loss to the Phillies on Friday in which Edwin Diaz coughed up four runs in relief, writes Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Van Wagenen reportedly called the meeting immediately after the loss and chewed out each of the coaches present. When he finished ripping into the staff, he reportedly tossed a chair in anger before sending manager Mickey Callaway out to conduct his postgame press conference.
It's the latest embarrassing chapter of a season of insanity. The team came into play on Saturday 39-49, both Callaway and players have openly battled the media, and there have been reports that Callaway and his staff have been receiving in-game instructions from Van Wagenen.
The Mets reek of failure this year, and the GM's thrashing of the coaching staff is simply further proof of the unavoidable truth. They've under-performed grotesquely, and it's clearly harmed morale.
A source confirmed the NY Post report that Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen threw a chair last night in a postgame meeting with manager Mickey Callaway and his coaches, then dismissed Callaway from the room to go conduct his "[expletive] press conference."

The outburst also adds fuel to the growing fire that Van Wagenen might not be cut out to be a general manager after all. Seriously, throwing a chair? I thought that stuff was reserved for Brad Pitt in "Moneyball."
He clearly isn't sure how to conduct himself right now. He's overstepping his bounds as an executive, and it's led to animosity between him and the coaching staff. Now, he's written another shameful chapter in the long, strange book that is the Metropolitans' 2019 season.
