The New York Mets decided to search in the alumni pool in picking their next pitching coach.

Former Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner is the new man for the job, it was announced on Tuesday morning.

Hefner was initially drafted twice by the Mets, both in 2004 and 2005, before being selected by the Padres in 2007. New York claimed Hefner off waivers in 2011 and the pitcher had his MLB debut in 2012 with the Mets.

After spending two seasons in the majors, Hefner was sent down to the minor leagues until he retired in 2017. The former pitcher has spent the past three years with the Minnesota Twins as both an advanced scout and an assistant pitching coach.

This offseason, the Mets have revamped their coaching staff and have welcomed back former players as coaches. Potential Hall of Famer Carlos Beltrán headlines the new staff as manager, but the additions of Hefner and former Giants hitting coach Hensley Meulens should not go overlooked.

After a disappointing season, the Mets have made tons of changes to their staff. How will things pan out? Next season can't get here soon enough.
