Mets' Latest Injury Update on Jed Lowrie is Beyond Incomprehensible
By Max Scoli
What was supposed to be a key offseason add for the New York Mets is turning into a disaster. Jed Lowrie has to step on the field this season.
Lowrie was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 28 with a sprained capsule in his left knee before being transferred to the 60-day IL nearly two months later with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. An update was recently released stating that the former All-Star was not close to returning, but this latest one is absolutely absurd.
It gives Mets fans absolutely no idea what ailments he's exactly dealing with, nor does it provide his timeline for return.
...what?
With Lowrie still a ways away from even beginning his rehab stint, is it safe to say that signing the infielder was the wrong call?
It looks like it. Despite hitting .267 with 23 HRs and 99 RBI in 157 games last year, it was naive to think that Lowrie would replicate this production and availability as he has always had problems staying on the field. He played a combined 156 games during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and it was only a matter of time before he fell to injury once again.
As a result, some people are desperate enough for answers that they are just outright asking the MLB infielder his ETA on Twitter.
Mets fans can only hope that Lowrie continues to progress and will eventually earn the two-year, $20 million deal he signed in January.
