3 MLB Teams That Should Call Mets About a Noah Syndergaard Trade Right Now
By Sean Facey
Free agent pitchers are flying off of the shelves right now. From Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg all the way down to Rick Porcello and Martin Perez, teams are scooping up starters left and right. And as the options on the market dwindle, three teams that are still in need of some rotation help would be wise to dial up a team like the New York Mets to inquire about a possible trade involving Noah Syndergaard.
3. Houston Astros
What better way is there to offset the loss of Gerrit Cole than to bring in another starter with triple-digit heat? Outside of Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke, the Astros have some major question marks in their starting rotation heading into next year. Rather than trying to bank on the likes of Forrest Whitley to piece it together in his rookie year, the Astros should go out and get a proven guy in Syndergaard to help keep them competitive in 2020.
2. St. Louis Cardinals
If there's a team that has the prospects to get a deal with the Mets done, it would be the Cardinals. They've got two top-40 prospects in baseball in Nolan Gorman and Dylan Carlson, and they'd be adding a superstar starter to their rotation that would give them a clear edge over their NL Central competitors. If they're going to spend money on offense, then they should at least beef up their rotation through a trade.
1. Chicago White Sox
The White Sox started off hot this offseason by signing Yasmani Grandal, but they whiffed in Zack Wheeler and are no scrambling to find options to bolster their rotation. Syndergaard, who is under contract through the end of 2021, would be the perfect fit for them. His 3.60 FIP was well below his 4.28 ERA in 2019, and with an elite framer like Grandal behind the plate, he could find his old form that saw him post a 2.93 ERA from 2015 to 2018.
