Mets Not Including Any of Their Top-5 Prospects in Player Pool is Stupid

The 2020 MLB season is going to be weird and downright crazy. Considering that it's occurring during the coronavirus pandemic, the league had no choice in the matter. Between the 60-game campaign and starting the 10th inning with a runner on second, it's all in the interest to prevent injuries and the spread of COVID-19.

To account for all of that, the league has allowed all 30 teams to have a 60-man player pool, which will consist of starters, bench options, and prospects, with the latter being the most exciting option. But the one team that has refused to include their future stars to the 2020 roster is, of course, the New York Mets.

The Mets had a grand opportunity to showcase their top prospects in the farm system to their long-suffering fan base. They did include shortstop Andres Gimenez, so that's cool. But the likes of Ronny Mauricio, Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Matthew Allan, Mark Vientos, and Thomas Szapucki will be sitting at home now that the minor league season was officially canceled this past week.

Teams are rightly taking advantage of this opportunity. Take the Detroit Tigers, for example. They included their top prospect in Casey Mize to the pool, and added 2020 first overall pick Spencer Torkelson as well, and he hasn't played a single game in the minor leagues!

But don't worry Mets fans, you can see the likes of Hunter Strickland and Melky Cabrera instead! Oh, and general manager Brodie Van Wagenen isn't ruling out Tim Tebow making his official MLB debut in 2020! Yay!

With fans unable to attend games (for now), MLB teams should be catering to them to ensure they're enticed for the entire campaign. Adding budding stars to their player pools creates much-needed hype for each squad.

But leave it to the Mets to pass on the chance to make their fans happy.
