Every pundit was ready for the New York Mets to sell at the trade deadline, ditching pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler. They may have made the right decision, as they've won nine of their last 10 games, and are just 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot.

A big reason for their surge in the standings is veteran second baseman Robinson Cano. However, just as he began pick up his play at the plate, he exited Sunday's game with a left hamstring strain. Naturally.

Before leaving Sunday's contest, Cano was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. In the month of August, Cano was hitting .600 (9-for-15) with five extra-base hits and three RBI.

Cano has dealt with several injuries this season, but this one couldn't have come at worse time, as he's finally giving this Mets club the offensive firepower they were desperately seeking when they acquired him from Seattle.

Can New York stem the tide without him?
