A sports team will always have a special place in a fan's heart, and if both parties are lucky, those bonds can last multiple decades. Unfortunately, the New York Mets lost a devoted member of their fan base this week.

On Sunday, the team's official Twitter account announced that superfan Rudy passed away at the age of 104. Memorably, she visited the Mets for her 102nd birthday and met the legendary David Wright!

The Mets always held a special spot in Rudy's heart. She witnessed the team's inception back in 1962, after the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers shifted over to California. In fact, Rudy always looked forward to Mets baseball.

Unfortunately, she didn't get the chance to watch the 2020 Mets take the field due to the coronavirus pandemic. To help cheer Rudy up, the Mets sent her a personalized video message from her favorite player, David Wright. Rudy and Wright share a special bond, clearly.

Rudy has seen a lot of great Mets moments throughout her long life, with the "Miracle Mets" winning the 1969 World Series, Johan Santana's no-hitter, and Bill Buckner's blunder to help the Mets come back and win the 1986 World Series chief among them.

We all hope we can live a long, tremendous life like Rudy did.
