Mets' Pete Alonso Rips Players Weekend Jerseys on Instagram

The Players Weekend jerseys weren't particularly popular among the fans, and apparently the players themselves weren't too fond of them either.
New York Mets star Pete Alonso ripped into the jerseys on Monday, saying he was overjoyed that he and his teammates didn't have to wear them anymore.
It's not a good look when one of the league's best young stars is so emphatic about his disdain for the uniforms that were specifically meant to celebrate the players themselves. His relief confirms just how much of a failure the uniforms really were.
The black and white theme was a drastic departure from recent years in which players adorned vibrant jerseys, which were admittedly only marginally better.
But at least those had color. Apart from the quirky nicknames on the back, these jerseys were completely devoid of any character on a weekend that was specifically meant for the players to show off their character! These cookie-cutter jerseys completely contradicted the league's message supporting individuality.
MLB should be thankful that they didn't have a mass scissor-cutting incident similar to when Chris Sale hacked his White Sox jersey to shreds back in 2016. Alonso took a much more civilized route in posting grievance on social media.
Hopefully next year's jerseys have at least some sort of flare to them, otherwise there will undoubtedly be more stars who will come out to voice their displeasure for the lack of creativity.
