Mets Star Pete Alonso Issues Thoughtful Statement After Postponement of MLB Season
By Sean Facey
The postponement of MLB's regular season due to the coronavirus outbreak has forced both fans and players alike to pause and reflect on their priorities. After all, sports leagues everywhere are dealing with something unprecedented right now.
One of the players taking a moment to make sense of everything is New York Mets star Pete Alonso, who sent out a heartfelt message in the midst of the chaos.
After thanking the medical professionals around the world who are tirelessly working around the clock to help stymie the spread of the disease, Alonso reminded everyone of the responsibility that they have to each other, which so many have forgotten throughout this hectic situation.
Some sports fans are upset that everything is postponed until further notice, but, spoiler alert, games are secondary when it comes to public health. If the players understand that, fans should too.
We'll have to wait a little while until Opening Day, but that's far from the worst thing going on in the world right now. Alonso gets it, which will hopefully influence more fans to understand.
