VIDEO: Mets Pitcher Michael Wacha's Brother Lucas Tells Heartwarming Story of Joining XFL's Tampa Bay Vipers
By Scott Rogust
The second incarnation of the XFL kicked off this weekend, a week removed from the conclusion of the NFL season. Football fans have given the new league a chance, and so far, the response has been positive. But how did the players reach this new league in the first place? If you're looking for a heartwarming story, look no further than Tampa Bay Vipers linebacker Lucas Wacha, brother of New York Mets and ex-Cardinals pitcher Michael.
Prior to joining the Vipers, Wacha was coaching football at Pleasant Grove High School in Texakarna, TX. During one practice, Wacha checked his phone, and found out that he was drafted by the Vipers.
His players immediately responded by swarming him in pure jubilation, while thanking Wacha for coaching them.
Wacha played collegiately at Wyoming, before having short stints with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL and Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League. Now, Wacha gets another shot to play the game he loves with the XFL's Vipers as their starting linebacker.
The moral of the story is to never give up on your dreams, because you never know when that next opportunity will arise.
