It's almost time for pitchers and catchers to report, and that means Spring Training facilities are about to start humming again. For the next month, some of the best athletes on the planet will prepare for the rigors and tests of the MLB season once again.

The New York Mets' pitchers and catchers reported Monday, and the team marked the occasion by debuting its $57 million remodeling of the Port St. Lucie clubhouse. The gorgeous renovation was revealed to the delight of Mets fans, who are eager for positive news after a less than ideal offseason.

It is a massive facility, and rightfully so. Spring Training rosters are full of players trying out and minor-leaguers eager for exposure. So the extended comforts provided by this newest project will be a welcome change for players preparing for cramped conditions over the spring preparations.

It is, however, disappointing that the organization doesn't plan on using these facilities during the minor-league season. It would be a nice gesture towards players who may never get a chance to see a pitch at the major-league level. Hopefully there will be an adjustment in philosophy, and the new clubhouse will be utilized past spring training.
